What to bring
How to get ready for the best half day fishing San Diego has to offer. We recommend bringing plenty of sunscreen as it can get quite sunny out on the water even on cloudy days. A hat and sunglasses are always a good idea. The boat rides early in the day and later in the afternoon can get a bit chilly, so a sweatshirt or jacket is clutch. Shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. A small hand towel, trust us, these come in real handy. And please be sure everyone has a face mask.
We have the best fishing gear available on the market, but you are welcome to bring your own gear if you would like to as well. Just please let us know ahead of time if you are bringing your own gear.
We provide an ice chest on the boat for your drinks, and anything else you would like to keep cold. It is a good idea to bring your own cooler or ice chest and leave it in your car for your fish upon our return. If you would like to bring snacks or an easy to eat lunch you are welcome do so as well.

What We Fish For On The Best Half Day Fishing
San Diego trips
Just a quick 20 minute boat ride from the docks will take us to the fishing grounds either in Point Loma, Mission Beach, or up in La Jolla. There are incredible kelp forests and underwater structures up and down our coast for us to fish.
Sport Fishing San Diego has a seasonality to it, and depending on the time of year, we will target different species. In the Spring and Summer we can catch Yellowtail, Halibut, Rockfish, Calico and Sand Bass, Sheephead, Ling Cod, Sea Bass and the occasional Dorado. In the Fall and Winter we catch a lot of Rockfish, Halibut, Calico Bass, Sand Bass, and Sea Bass.
California Sport Fishing License
On San Diego Fishing Charters all anglers 16 years or older are required to have a valid form of ID (Driver’s License, Military ID, or Passport) and a California sport fishing license for the day they are fishing. Luckily they are super easy to get for your fishing adventure with us. There are two options:
1. You can get one online here:
Login as a guest, go to “purchase license,” then “Sport Fishing 1 Day License (res/nonres).
Please be sure to: set it for the specific date we are going fishing, print it out and sign it.
2. You can get one at the day of your fishing trip on location at the docks.
We recommend that you go with option #1 as it will save us time on the day of our fishing trip so we can get out of the docks and out to the sport fishing grounds faster.
